Following Government’s latest plan to reopen schools and resume the 2020 academic year, the body in charge of setting and overseeing national examinations countrywide, the Uganda National Examinations Board(UNEB) has come out and said it is not aware of any intended
re-opening of any schools and thus has not set any plan for national examinations.
This comes after confirmation from the Senior Presidential adviser on epidemics, Dr. Monica Musenero that President Museveni in conjunction with the National taskforce agreed to re-open schools for finalists and candidate classes starting September 20th, 2020.
This resolution was reached in their meeting held on September 1, 2020. However, the Executive Secretary UNEB, Dan Nokorach Odong says that they do not have official communication so they cannot comment on whether UNEB will pass on exams to students or not until they receive communication from the President or the Minister herself.
It is important to note that students haven’t been to school since the lockdown was first imposed on 18th March 2020. There have been efforts by both Government and private education entities to avail reading material to keep students up to per with their academic work.
