Ugandan screenwriters Joseph Opio and David Kibuuka have been nominated for the prestigious Emmy awards in the category for outstanding writing in a variety of series for their work on The Daily Show with renowned Trevor Noah.
The Emmys are American awards that recognise outstanding content in the television industry.
Joseph Opio, one of the nominee’s earned a law degree and worked as an accountant for Deloitte for many years, before transitioning into comedy.
In 2012, he briefly hosted LOL a satirical show that aired on Urban TV before he moved to New York to pursue a career in comedy where he met the undeniably humorous Trevor Noah.
Talent recognised talent during Opio’s act at the Comedy Cellar thus resulting in Trevor Noah hiring the latter as a writer in the first season of The Daily Show
His counterpart, David Kibuuka is a multi-talented Ugandan writer, actor, producer, and comedian known for his role in The Daily Show. Being an actor he has had the privilege of starring in some movies such as; Bunny Chow, Blitz Patrollie among others.
The awards will be the 72nd of their kind and they’ll take place on September 21st 2020 at the Microsoft theatre with Jimmy Kimmel as the host.
