Uganda Cranes Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru announced a formidable squad for the International friendly match against South Africa National team on 10th June 2021. The 34-strongman contingent is expected to enter camp on Sunday 30th May 2021.
At the Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi, the stars will be under the stewardship of the resilient Emmanuel Okwi who Mubiru handed the captaincy mantle. The Ittihad Alexandria FC hitman takes over from Dennis Onyango who unceremoniously retired from international football last month.
Three players, Kambale Eric, Wafula Innocent and Akandwanaho Joseph have also earned their maiden calls to the Cranes setup. This as five stars from the Hippos team that reached this year’s U-20 Afcon made the cut. Captain Gavin Kizito, Ismail Mugulusi, Aziz Kayondo, Bobosi Byaruhanga, and top scorer Derrick Kakooza all earned Mubiru’s trust and will be expected for training at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Ismail Watenga is back in the Cranes fold following his terrific start at Chippa United that saw him guide the Chilli Boys to the Nedbank Cup finals. Bright Stars’ Tamale Simon and Azam’s Kigonya Mathias will be throwing in their hands for the number one jersey alongside KCCA’s ever reliant Charles Lukwago.
Montreal Impact’s Mustafa Kizza headlines a formidable backline blended with both youngsters and experience. Southend United’s Bwomono Elvis, Mbarara City’s Innocent Wafula, Express’ duo of Juuko Murushid and Enock Walusimbi make the cut. Bull’s Ssemakula Kenneth is also expected in camp following an impressive season for the Jinja outfit.
URA’s Mbowa Paul Patrick earns another callup alongside Muhammad Hassan of Police and U-20 captain Kizito Mugweri Gavin. The Villa youngster joins the trio of Azizi Kayondo, Lwaliwa Halid and Paul Willa from the Kitende based Vipers.
In midfield, the Police tactician has a fair share of steel and creativity as Simba’s Tadeo Lwanga and KCCA’s Anukani Bright are prepare their journey to Cranes Paradise Hotel. Supersport United’s eye-pleasing Waiswa Moses Ndhondhi joins fellow St. Mary’s Kitende graduates Byaruhanga Bobosi and Serwadda Stephen who ply their trade for Vipers and KCCA respectively. URA’s captain Shafik Kagimu Kuchi carries with him teammate Sserubiri Ivan and Vipers’ pacy playmaker Orit Ibrahim. Mugulusi Isma, another member of the record breaking Hippos that made it to the U-20 AFCON finals earlier this year is trusted by Mubiru. The Busoga United player joins fan-favourite Lumala Abdu of Pyramids and Bright Stars’ Akandwanaho Joseph.
The freshly announced captain Emmanuel Okwi will begin his first assignment as the Cranes make a date with the Bafana Bafana at the Orlando Stadium, South Africa. Vipers duo of Bassangwa Richard and Sentamu Yunus will be looking to score goals in South Africa. The U-20 AFCON top scorer Derrik Kakooza’s heroics with Police haven’t gone unnoticed with the youngster joining AC Paradou’s magical Okello Allan. The on-form Kambale Eric is in contention to make his Cranes debut following his maiden Cranes call-up. Patrick Kaddu who plies his trade with Youssoufia Berrechid in Morocco also makes the cut.
