Uganda Christian University, Mukono is moving in sync with current times as it is set to hold online guild elections, the first of its kind amongst Ugandan universities.
These elections come at a time where students are unable to physically participate in the voting process to elect new leaders hence the innovation.
Mrs. Bridget Mugasira Mugume, the Director of Student Affairs, says UCU is all set for the exercise that kicks off today with nominations followed by online campaigns.
The e-elections are meant to give students a chance to vote from the comfort of their homes as they adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) of Ministry of Health aimed at curbing the spread of the deadly Corona virus disease.
This process will also save the university from spending alot of resources that are usually incurred during the physical process in addition to setting the pace for other institutions to pick a leaf.
Boss John Bruce, the Chairperson of the UCU electoral commission while expounding on the electoral process, went on to further emphasize that the elections will be free and fair and devoid of any malpractice.
UCU has already gone ahead to incorporate online orientation for their students in the faculties of business and social sciences, as well as the schools of medicine and dentistry.
