The chairperson National Resistance Movement (NRM) electoral commission has come out to refute claims that NRM will use electoral colleges for party primaries. Speaking to journalists on Thursday afternoon, Dr. Tanga Odoi insisted that regardless of what is happening in parliament, the ruling party will hold party primaries the way they have always done it.
The members of Parliament are in a in a discussion on how to hold flag bearer elections with out necessarily having large gatherings to maintain the socials distancing standard operating procedures due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Presented by the constitutional affairs minister, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu told his fellow legislators how they should comply to the ministry of health guidelines during these part primaries a way to mitigate the spread of this virus that led to a pause of virus activities in the country and world at large.
The last time NRM held party primaries in 2015 numerous complaints of cheating and manipulation by party members were heard. however, Tanga Odoi insisted that the Central Executive Committee (CEC) will revisit the NRM electoral road map and comeback to communicate to the public on Monday. It is also noted that for several times, CEC has failed to agree on the party electoral road map in compliance with Ministry of Health directives on fighting Covid19 .
Tanga Odoi also added that proposal of postponing an election due to the covid19 is something unrealistic.
