Buganda’s Premier, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has called for the stop of the rampant arrests that have swept the country like a wave.
The Katikiro made the remarks while attending an event organized by the Buganda Youth Council (BYC) members, who won gallantly in the recently concluded 2021 general elections last month.
The Katikiiro applauded and congratulated them for having won the elections in the different positions they aspired. He also encouraged those who failed to continue serving the people and wait for the next elections to retry their elective leadership chances.
On the other side, Owek. Mayinga was not happy with the way Ugandans were being arrested and taken to unknown venues. He cautioned the security organs, saying that there should be investigations in the matters, and later on arrests in a lawful manner if someone is suspected of wrongdoing.
You have been elected when the government’s enemies are trying to put it down; we hope the security bodies try to rectify this problem and work by the law.Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga
The Katikiiro further called upon the government to end this unacceptable manner of abducting its citizens by personnel hiding their identity and pick up people from their homes late in the night, taking them to unknown places without informing the families of the cause of arrest or where they are being taken.
Tthe Katikiiro asked the newly elected leaders not to shame him, the Kingdom and themselves, but perform to an extent that the people need and expect of them as leaders.
The youth need to get into leadership, and it starts now; I am really so happy that many of you who won the elections were one way or the other connected to the Buganda Youth Council.
