The Deputy Kampala Resident City Commissioner in Charge of Nakawa Division Herbert Burora has issued an order to close Forest Mall and Shoprite in Lugogo.
In a notice dated 13th July 2021, the RCC brazenly wrote that the two Lugogo based business entities should close with effect from 14th July until further notice.
“Following my conversation with you on July 06, 2021, on the phone over security concerns following the 18/ 06/ 2021 presidential directives, where the President guided the country and issued express directives and guidelines for the 42 days lockdown, it is unfortunate that they were not followed by management of the premises,” said Mr. Burora.
The order to close comes in response to what the RCC argues has been the constant disregard for Standard Operating procedures by the President of Uganda, the government, and the ministry of health.
Uganda was placed in a 42-day lockdown on 18th June 2021 as the country tried to get a hold of the rampant second wave of the coronavirus.
Mr. Burora said that the two premises would only be open if certain guidelines are followed. These include restaurants enforcing social distancing, and the same applies to financial institutions. In addition, private cars won’t be allowed to access the premises unless they identify themselves as essential staff.
