Santiago Carzola is set to leave villarreal when the Spanish league gets completed this Sunday the 19th July 2020.
The Spanish club has confirmed that Carzola has opted not to extend his stay with them beyond this season as he has his eyes elsewhere.
Carzola started his football career at Real Oviedo before joining Villarreal in 2003 to earn himself a professional contract. After joining Villarreal, Carzola was shipped to partner club Recreativo De Huelva to further his development before he was signed back by the yellow submarine in €1.2m deal.
After joining Villarreal, the little Spaniard continued to blossom on the pitch as his speed, shot accuracy and his change of game play attracted the then big spenders Malaga who signed him for a record fee of £21m.
Malaga’s grievous financial situation meant they had to sell Carzola to arsenal for £10m where he want on to become a core component of Wenger’s team that won two FA cups.
The 35 year old’s association with the gunners came to an end in 2018 when Wenger was replaced with Emery who so no need in award the fans’ favorite a new contract stating a concern of his injury woes that had kept Carzola off the pitch for nearly two seasons.
Carzola then left Arsenal and Joined villarreal in the summer of 2008 where he has then managed to silence doubters and also earn himself a recall to the Spanish national team.
However, Carzola has decided that now is the write time to end his stay at Villarreal, His last game will be against Eibar tomorrow “Villarreal have given me everything. At the age of 18, they opted to sign a boy from Oviedo who knew no one. I am proud to be able to finish my career with Bruno.
“I hope that, as happened with my previous farewell match (when Cazorla left in 2006), it will be a ‘see you later’.”
Carzola is rumored to be eying a return to Arsenal in a coaching Capacity.
