Rotary Uganda has today confirmed that the Cancer Run would be commemorated on Sunday, 29th August 2021. This will be the 10th anniversary of the now global event.
As was the case in 2020, this year’s edition will be celebrated virtually with participants encouraged to get running kits at UGX 25,000 and either run 10km or skip the rope 10 times or make 10 steps to mark the 10-year journey.
Like last year, the 2021 edition will be virtual. We continue to receive support from the diaspora, attracting some of the world’s greatest commendations for this Virtual Cancer Run 2021.Past District Governor Stephen Mwanje
PDG Mwanje emphasized that collections from this year’s edition would go to the set up of two bunkers at Nsambya Hospital housing two cancer testing and treatment machines. In addition, Rotary’s focus would be on training and skilling medical staff in cancer treatment.
Among the milestones to celebrate on the 10th anniversary of the cancer run are:
- A fully operational and equipped 36-bed cancer treatment center at Nsambya Hospital worth UGX 1.5 Billion.
- Countrywide and global participation
- UGX 2.3 billion colected after the completion of the tratement center in Nsambya
- A new partnership with the Uganda Cancer Institute that identified the Cancer Center in nsambya as the regional center for cancer treatment.
