Juventus’ curse in Europe’s Elite club tournament continues as they were dropped out of the competition by French side Lyon .
Juventus were at the beginning of the season tipped to be among the teams that would win the champions league but their poor performance in the first leg of the Round Of 16 in France against Lyon has seen them crash out on away goals rule.
This comes just one year after they crashed out to last season’s semi finalists Ajax in the Quarter final.
Juventus started the second leg a goal down on aggregate and they were given much to think about when Memphis Depay doubled Rui Garcia men’s advantage with a well-taken penalty within 10 minutes. The old lady conceded a penalty in the first 10 minutes after Bentancur was misjudged to have fouled Aour in the box. Lyon captain stepped up to give his teammates the lead both on the night and on Aggregate.
Cristiano Ronaldo pulled one back for Juventus from a spot kick too after Pjanic’s freekick struck Depay on the hand.
Juventus started the second half needing two goals to win the tie and they were given hope by Ronaldo when he scored from outside the box with a ferocious shot that beat a flying Lopez.
Despite Ronaldo’s heroics, his team crashed out of the champions league and they will now have to wait another year to stage a title challenge for the gong.
After Juventus crashing out, Maurizio Sarri is under more pressure and it’s rumored he could be replaced with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino even after helping the Old lady to their ninth consecutive Seria A title.
