Juventus were yesterday confirmed as Italian Serie A champions for the ninth time in a row. The old lady beat mid-table side Sampdoria 2-0 at Stadio Delle Alpi to move seven points clear of Second-placed Inter Milan thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Juventus needed a win to ensure they could not be caught in the title race and a win over Sampdoria did just that.
Ronaldo opened the scoring in the extra minutes of the first half before Federico Bernardeschi netted a second in the 66th minute of the game to give Juventus a well-deserved win. Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty and will be left feeling bad in the race of the Golden boot as Lazio immobile scored a hattrick to move to 34 goals for the season leaving the five-time ballon D’or on 31 goals.
Juventus had missed the chance to win the title on Thursday when the ‘Old Lady’ of Italian football fell to a 2-1 defeat at Udinese but they made no mistake this time around against Claudio Ranieri’s Sampdoria.
This Serie A title becomes Sari’s first and Juventus’ ninth in the row after the winning run was started by Inter’s Antonio Conte in 2012 who won three trophies before it was continued by Masmelliano Allegri who won five in a row before he departed in 2019.
Ronaldo showed delight about him winning a second successive league title in Italy on Instagram with a post on Instagram that read “Delighted for the second consecutive championship and to continue building the history of this great and splendid club,”
After clinching the Serie A title, Juventus will now turn their attention to the champions league where they face Lyon in Turin to decide who makes it to the quarter-finals.
