The buildup towards the 2021 General Election has thrown its latest curveball with singer Ronald Mayinja releasing a re-election campaign song for President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

Mayinja introduces the song, titled “Mzee Akalulu Kako,” by saying the people always sent Museveni to be their leader. Others keep competing with him but always fall off as they can’t handle the incumbent.
“We always hurl insults at you, it hurts you, but you remain firm and steadfast. It is your wisdom and knowledge that this country very much needs. For someone that brings his foes to the roundtable and discusses the future of the nation, we can not call you bad because Obote and Amin are incomparable in that fete,” Mayinja goes on.
The “Tuli Kubunkenke” and “Africa” singer further quotes Italian Diplomat Niccolo Machiavelli’s saying. In contrast, the Italian said it is better to be feared than loved if you cannot be both; Museveni is lucky to be both loved and feared.
This song’s release has come as a shock to many who always saw the musician on the side of who’s believed to be Museveni’s strongest opponent in 2021, Kyadondo East legislator and NUP President, Hon Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi.
In August, Mayinja was quoted to say, “I went to the President on a fact-finding mission. I wanted to know if he has a plan for this country. The truth is, we are on our own.”
Mayinja’s Akalulu joins NRM “album” for Museveni’s re-election after Bebe Cool also released a song earlier this month titled Mwongede Akalulu.” featured a host of other artistes in a 2015 song titled “Tubonga Nawe” in support of President Yoweri Museveni then. That particular song featured King Saha, Dr. Jose Chameleone, Juliana Kanyomozi, Ki Radiology, Weasel, Iryn Namubiru, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Rema, Judith Babirye & Haruna Mubiru.
In 2010, Museveni did not wait for established musicians to campaign for him when he went ahead and released “Another rap,” seeking re-election the following year.
