Minister Of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, has withdrawn from contesting to represent the constituency of Igara West in the upcoming 2021 elections.
Hon. Magyezi, who gained prominence when he tabled the bill to amend the Presidential Term Limit, has chosen not to seek a return to the Parliament.
It is understood that Magyezi has chosen to concentrate on ministerial duties while other sources claim he grew overly wary of the political presence and pressure from his rivals in the primaries i.e Gaffa Mbwatekamwa, Horace Muhabuzi, and veteran politician Prof Tarasis Kabwegyere.
Others in the race include; Adam Kyakuwa, Dr. Nicholus Karuhanga, Tumwebaze Kilian, Onesmus Tumutegyeriize, Muhammad Ruhamire and one lady Adrine Kobusiingye Domaro.
Just yesterday, parliament approved a motion moved by Minister of Local government Raphael Magyezi for the creation of 47 constituencies and bringing forward the Operationalization of Hoima, Lira and Soroti cities from the earlier commencement date of July 2021 to an even earlier date.
