President Yoweri Museveni has today joined several leaders across the world by taking his first Covd-19 dose of the Astra Zeneca Vaccine with the first lady ,Janet Kataha Museveni . The President’s physician and Health Ministry Permanent Secretary , Doctor Diana Atwine administered the first doses to the President and the first lady from Statehouse Nakasero.
During the most recent State of the nation address earlier this month ,the president said that the reason why hadn’t yet taken his jab was because he was still undecided on which vaccine to use and he also added that he was quite careful with his life
“First of all, I am careful and well protected by the system here. Secondly, I am also looking at which of the vaccines should I go for… Johnson & Johnson, the Chinese, the Russian? Ours, a Ugandan one, will also come later, but maybe it will be used in the future,” Museveni said.

“First Lady Janet Museveni and I got our Covid-19 vaccine today in Nakasero. I call upon all Ugandans who qualify for this vaccination to go to health facilities and get it. But remember to keep observing the SOPs wear ,” the president said after getting his jab alongside the first lady in way of encouraging Ugandans to go get themselves vaccinated
This comes a day after government confirmed that Uganda had registered Covid-19 cases with the South African strain B1 351 and Nigerian variant B.1.525 which are more contagious than the usual virus .
