The physical infrastructure committee of Parliament has summoned the Attorney General over the disputes surrounding the renewal of the lease of the land at Centenary Park, meant for construction of the Kampala Flyover.
The land in question currently houses Centenary Park and is overseen by Nalongo Estates, which is owned by Sarah Kizito and her husband Godfrey Nyakana.
According to UNRA officials, Nalongo Estates will not relinquish the land as the lease of ownership was renewed by the Kampala City Council Authority. The parliament had in 2017 instructed KCCA not to renew the contract and pave way for construction of the flyover.
The summon comes after William Matovu, the Head of Land Acquisition at UNRA, informed Parliament that the project would be delayed because the land at Centenary Park was not secured.
