There’s been widespread panic in Lira today after a truck driver collapsed. The driver of the Kenyan registered automobile collapsed in his vehicle that had been packed by the roadside since Saturday evening.
Efforts to evacuate him to the nearest hospital have however proved futile as local leaders continued to be baffled by the situation at hand.
Area residents suspect that the driver might have contracted the deadly COVID-19. A few witnesses say that he at one point got out of his truck and was struck by bouts of vomiting before getting right back.
Residents further added that since Saturday 8th August, he’s been semi-conscious and unable to speak. They diligently claim to have called the local authorities both in charge of health and security to intervene with their cries falling on deaf ears.
The LC 1 chairperson,Angwetagwent, Lira Jimmy Mao said he had prior informed health officials concerned with COVID response to no avail.
The Police from Angwetagwent have been deployed around the area where the driver was found.
The RDC Milton Odongo however says that the situation will in no time normalize as arrangements to take the patient to the nearest Referral hospital located in Lira.
