Finally, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has a flagbearer in the Mawogola North Parliamentary race ahead of the 2021 elections.
President Kaguta Museveni’s brother, Aine “Sodo” Kaguta defeated Shartsi Kutesa Musherure, Minister Sam Kutesa’s daughter, in what will go down as the hottest contested primaries, which were popular for their violence.
The victory was announced yesterday, bringing an end to a tenuous electoral exercise, with heavy deployment of law enforcement agents including the Deputy IGP, Sabiiti Muzeyi.
Aine Kaguta accrued 17,343 votes (46%), Shartsi came second in the race with 16,104 (42.7%) and Kisekka Salim collected 4,274 votes(11.3%).
Ms Shartsi, who lost by 3.3% is contesting the results saying she was cheated, and will surely contest the results.
“I believe we have not been defeated, we have been cheated. I will be submitting my petition covering six villages where I have major concern seeking the NRM commission’s new judgement on these elections,” said Shartsi.
