As the nation gears up for the 2021 General elections, political parties are strategically placing themselves by fronting the best candidates. These candidates need to go through party primaries first and it is dramatic in the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Information reaching us confirms that NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has suspended elections in Mawogola West constituency.
The elections were set to happen tomorrow, Friday 4th September 2020 but have been called off and an investigation launched into incidences of violence between contestants legislator Joseph Ssekabiito Kitayimbwa and the Sembabule district MP Hanifa Bangirana Kawooya.
“The commission under MIN. NRM EC 029/2020 has decided to postpone the NRM Primary elections for Member of Parliament Mawogola West County constituency to a date which shall be communicated,” Dr. Tanga said in an official statement.
In an address to the Sembabule District Elections Officer, Dr. Odoi said they were taking the case and investigating reported violence against Hanifa Kawooya.
The rest of the Primaries in Sembabule district (ie for Woman Member of Parliament and other constituencies except Mawogola West County) shall continue as planned for 4 September 2020.
