In a bid to realize article 9 of the National Resistance Movement’s Constitution, the Party Chairperson, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued out fresh guidelines in regards to how the Party’s Primaries shall be conducted.
In a letter addressed to all National Resistance Movement Branch (Village) Executive Committees, the Party Chairman issued three major guidelines. Firstly; that all members of NRM whose names appear on the voting register shall be allowed to vote. Secondly; that any NRM Member whose name is not on the party register shall be immediately added to the register and permitted to vote if they are above the age of 18 and have been verified by the Branch (Village) Executive Committee as party members in that village. Finally, it is the Chairperson’s directive that where there are no registers, the Branch Executive Committee shall verify and register all members eligible to vote.

He further emphasized that all this should be done with great transparency and should not in any way be a source of conflict. The NRM primaries are scheduled to take place on 4th September, 2020. Reports of violence have already been reported in some of the constituencies. In addition to this, some fear that these elections will further the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
