While political aspirants get ready to formally return nomination forms picked earlier, the National Resistance Movement is fronting their sole candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the Presidential seat in the forthcoming 2021 general elections, once again.
Mr.Tanga Odoi, the Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission earlier mentioned that Mr Museveni was the only candidate that picked forms for the said positions and duly paid the mandatory nomination fees of 10 Million Uganda shillings.
He further stated that the NRM Electoral Commission declared President Museveni as a sole candidate for the seat of the Party National Chairman, this was a tad too controversial as a one John Ssimbwa, former Makindye East MP had similarly expressed interest in challenging the incumbent.
According to Tanga Odoi, Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission, the former legislator never showed seriousness in what he was doing.
“He didn’t commit himself even by paying expression of interest fees. We don’t deal with political realities like that. You can’t come to politics when you are not ready.”
John Simbwa duly expressed his grievances to journalists whom he told that he was not happy with the way things unfolded saying he is running to court over the same.
“The roadmap was very clear that July 20th-22nd was for expression of interest and July 27th and 28th was for nomination. How can the Electoral Commission chairperson in the middle of the roadmap declare someone sole candidate when not nominated,” Ssimbwa questioned.
The former legislator said he was still mobilising funds before he could return on July 27 for nomination.
He further lamented,
“It seems Tanga is on pressure to declare President Museveni as sole candidate but tomorrow I am going to court over the same matter.”
Ssimbwa was the only other NRM member who had expressed interest in challenging President Museveni for the national chairperson seat.
