After 2 days of back and forth from NBA players, the NBA and team owners, it has been resolved that the postseason shall resume tomorrow, Saturday 29th August.
The postseason came to an unprecedented halt when the Bucks decided not to play Game 5 of their first-round playoff against the Orlando Magic. This move had a ripple effect with the subsequent playoff games called off. This swept through all major sports in America with the WNBA, MLS, MLB, NFL all calling off activity.
The move was in reaction to authorities laxity in dealing with the unlawful shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Wisconsin is the home state of Milwaukee Bucks with Milwaukee and Kenosha 40 minutes apart. The players were demanding for more affirmative action in the Black Lives Matter.
The players argued that the NBA and team owners have a lot of political and social capital that can influence the powers that be to call for positive action towards police brutality.
In a joint statement released today by the NBA and NBPA, it has been agreed that the games resume 29th August among other steps towards social justice reforms.
