Several Members of Parliament have today been unveiled as members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in an event that took place at the NUP/ People Power headquarters in Kamwokya-Kampala.
The members that have publicly declared their affiliation to the NUP party include two former NRM rebel MPs, Patrick Nsamba Orishabe (Kassanda North), John Baptist Nambeshe (Manjiya County). Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality) also crossed over to the party with Lulyamuzi Kalwanga an Independent MP representing Busujju County and Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebagala.
Others are Makindye Division Mayor Kasirye Nganda, Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga (Nakawa Division), and Kawempe Mayor Dr. Emmanuel Serunjogi.
Speaking at the event, the party principal, Hon Kyagulanyi Sentamu said that this is just the beginning and first of many steps to becoming the biggest opposition party in the country.
“This is just the beginning, many more MPs are going to be coming here to declare their defection, membership and allegiance to NUP,” Kyagulanyi said.
The party president commended the new members for making a noble decision to identify with the party. He added, “We are pleased that these ladies and gentlemen are confident about identifying with us. They are people I personally hold with high regard.” Kyagulanyi said.
