President Museveni has called upon Ugandans to prioritize Uganda Airlines for their travels abroad. This was after the the newly-sworn in president made his maiden flight on the national carrier that was revived in 2019.
Yoweri Museveni was returning from a one-day working trip to the Tanzania’s port city of Dar-es-salaam where he had been invited by his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu to witness the signing of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline tripartite host government agreement. Kaguta used the opportunity to rally Ugandans not to get carried away by petroleum which is an exhaustible resource. He pledged to use oil resources to build durable sectors and by the time the oil reserves are depleted, the region would have attained success.
Upon landing in Entebbe, the Luwero bush fighter used the opportunity to shower the bombardier’s crew with praises.
These young people are good pilots. Don’t look down upon them much as they are from the villages. They are so good that I didn’t realise they had landed.President Museveni
The president used the opportunity to speak on the recent allegations about mismanagement in the airlines. These were fuelled by the abrupt laying off of senior officials at the airlines a move the Transport Minister downplayed as a restructuring one. General Katumba Wamala confirmed to journalists earlier this month that the officials including the CEO, Cornwell Muleya had requested for annual leave to allow for internal re-examination.
The Airline had been infiltrated by alleged corruption which I have smashed. I have disciplined the board and some elements in management.President Museveni on corruption within the airline.
A comprehensive report of the Auditor General showed that the airline had posted a loss amounting to a hefty tune of 15 billion shillings in the 2018/2019 financial year.
