The longest-serving director of finance and administration in the history of the National Resistance Movement secretariat, Hassan Galiwango, has been appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as Uganda’s High commissioner to Kenya.
President Museveni, who is also the chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, made the party positional changes in June at the party’s secretariat that saw Galiwango and a host of others dropped. Whereas many saw it as a hurdle, for Galiwango, it proved to be a blessing in disguise.
At the secretariat, Galiwango was replaced by Medina Naham, the NRM party chairperson of Koboko District.
Hassan Galiwango is not new to the political and diplomatic arena as he is the husband to Mbale woman Member of Parliament, Connie Galiwango.
He replaces Phoebe Otaala, who resigned as Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya as a way of focusing on the NRM party primaries. Otaala would eventually lose in the primaries.
This appointment comes shortly after Kaka Bagyenda, former Internal Security Organizaton(ISO) boss was named envoy to Angola.
