State Minister for Tourism, Hon Godfrey Kiwanda is out of the 2021 General Elections as he confirmed he won’t be contesting for the Mityana North MP seat.
The minister says it is a decision that has been heavily backed and advised by party (NRM) leadership and that he is going to be concentrating on his new position, NRM Vice Chairperson, Central Region.
He has served the people of Mityana North as MP for three terms but the Honorable has not been without headlines. Upon re-election in 2016, Kiwanda promised rural electrification of the entire Mityana North a promise he hasn’t seen through to fulfillment. In February last year, Hon. Kiwanda alongside Anne Mungoma and Miss Curvy Uganda were dragged to Mengo Magistrates Court by Gideon Tugume the Executive Director of Human Rights Defenders Uganda who said that the pageant was discriminative, degrading and a shameful to the country’s culture and heritage.
