Arsenal and Ozil have finally part ways after seven and a half years of working together. Ozil joined Arsenal in 2013 in what was then a record transfer for the club as the gunners forked out £42.5 million to sign him from Real Madrid. Mesut’s transfer to Arsenal at the time not only made him the most expensive player in the club’s history but also made him the most expensive German player ever in world history.
After his transfer to Arsenal, Ozil hipped praise on legendary boss Arsene Wenger for playing a huge part in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium “When I spoke to Arsène Wenger on the phone, he was full of respect, and as a player, I need that.” Several Real Madrid players were however dissatisfied with Özil leaving the club, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who said, “He was the player who best knew my moves in front of goal … I’m angry about Özil leaving”
Following his arrival in north London, Arsenal was back to winning trophies as he inspired the gunners to their first-ever trophy in nine years with an FA cup. he went on and won two more trophies with gunners.
Despite Ozil’s undeniable talent, his status at the club has always split opinion in the Arsenal faithful, where some felt he was an exceptional talent and whereas others felt he never performed to his talent standards. These opinions have also been displayed in his inclusion in Arsenal’s recent squads by coaches as he got froze out and in out of the teams by Emery, Ljumberg, and then Mikel Arteta.
Ozil’s struggles in London have however come to an end as he has left England for Turkey in a free transfer. Arsenal confirmed that gunners and the former Real Madrid star had come to a mutual understanding to end his contract and this has seen him join Fenerbahçe on a free transfer.
Arsenal’s Technical director Edu thanked the german for his contribution to the club in his over 250 appearances “We thank Mesut for his huge contribution to Arsenal. He has made more than 250 appearances, played in three Emirates FA Cup final wins, and has given the fans and everyone at the club many wonderful moments on the pitch since he joined us in 2013. We would like to thank Mesut and his team for their professionalism during our recent negotiations. I know everyone associated with Arsenal will join me in wishing Mesut and his family the best of health, success, and happiness in the next chapter of his career.” Edu Said on Arsenal’s Official page.
