Mbarara District is not new to controversies and the arrest of the City Tycoon Balya’s sons will perhaps go down as one of the most polemical incidents in their history.
All this started off when Mr. Apollo Balya, the proprietor of Balya Mall which shelters Balya Stint Hardware failed to honor his loan agreement of 9 Billion Shillings from Orient Bank hence prompting the bank through Court Bailiffs to seal off the building and sell it off to cover the borrowed money since in had been availed as security for the loan by the tycoon.
However, this did not go as planned. Masses were shocked when sons of the City Mogul; Arnold Nuwagaba and Ambrose Musinguzi blocked the Mbarara-Masaka highway with the father’s hardware tracks as a way of protesting against the sale of their father’s mall by the Bank, a move that cued their arrest.
This sparked off rants that depicted different reactions from the public with some in agreement and others against the City tycoon. The tycoon’s major argument was that he was never given sufficient notice prior to selling the building which is a prerequisite of the law.
News reaching our desk indicates that the tycoon’s sons have been released on bond from Police Custody pending further investingations in the matter said ASP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police Commander.
