It’s been over four months since the last champions league action when Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig knocked out last season’s finalists. The season was then temporarily suspended by UEFA following the corona virus pandemic. Now that there has been some ease in the lock down restrictions, UEFA is set to bring back Europe’s biggest club competition.
Earlier this week UEFA confirmed that the remaining matches of the last sixteen stages will be played on the 7th and 8th of August and at their original stadiums going against rumors that were being circulated that games would be played on neutral grounds. Man city will have to finish off Madrid at the Etihad if they are to play in the quarter finals having beaten Zidane’s men 2-1 in the first leg, Cristiano will need to inspire his Side to over come Lyon so as to play in the last eight and Chelsea will have to be miraculous if they are to achieve anything from Germany having been murdered at the Bridge.
After all teams to have qualified from the last sixteen are confirmed, quarter finals will be played in Lisbon and will not be played out in the traditional two legged format.
There has been a draw at UEFA’s headquarters in Switzerland and Atlanta will host PSG who overcame Valencia and Borussia Dortmund in the last sixteen. Teams that knocked out last seasons finalists in Tottenham and Liverpool have been drawn together.
