Liverpool Football Club have today confirmed that Dejan Lovren has joined Zenit St. Petersburg in a permanent transfer.
The Croatian has joined Zenit after the Russian side agreed to pay £11m to the English and European Champions for his services.
Lovren leaves the kop after making 185 appearances in six years where he managed to win the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and Uefa super cup.
Lovren joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2014 in a 20m deal, and he has now decided to move on as he found himself being a fourth choice central defender at the club behind Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.
Lovren’s greatest memory in Liverpool will be the goal he scored against Dortmund in the Europa League to send the reds through to the semi-finals which they won only to lose to Emery’s Sevilla in the finale.
Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to the departing defender and claimed that Liverpool had lost a legend in Lovren “Another Liverpool legend leaves the club. He was a very, very important part of this team from the first day since I was in,” Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s official website.
Mohammad Salah, Lovren’s great friend at Liverpool had a goodbye message to his pal and claimed he would be missed at the club.
I don’t know how to say, my friend. You don’t know my feeling right now. We’re really going to miss you a lot, especially me,” said Salah. You’ve been an unbelievable player and a great friend for me. We’re going to miss you a lot. I miss you a lot, I love you so much. You’ve been fantastic outside the field and inside the field. So, thank you for everything you did for the club, thank you for everything you did for me. I wish you all the best in the future and I wish you to have a great career as well, enjoying the new club with your family. Thank you very much and see you soon.Mohammed Salah
