Just as we were trying to get over Jacob Kiplimo’s triumph in the 5000m race during the World Spike Meet in Ostrava, the nineteen-year-old has won another gold medal at the Rome Diamond League race on Thursday night.
Tonight’s win came at the cost of Moses Kipsiro’s thirteen-year-old 3,000m race national record (7:30.95) as the youngster lowered the national record to 7.26.64
The Kapchwora born long-distance runner got the better of Norwegian age mate Jakob Ingrebrigsten who also set a Norwegian national record (7:27.05)during an intriguing 3000m race in the Italian capital.
Kiplimo, who kept the best for last, took Ingrebrigtsen by surprise as he raced past down the home straight to win the battle of the teenagers as record the fastest time in the 3000m race since 2007 and set a Diamond League record in the process.
Jacob Kiplimo is surely having the week of his life as he puts in his claim alongside compatriot Joshua Cheptegei as the forces to reckon with on the track this coming decade.
