The Wakiso chief magistrate court has issued criminal summons against Kyadondo East MP and president of the National Unity Platform, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, to answer to charges pertaining falsification of documents handed in to the Wakiso district Electoral Commission returning officer.
On Tuesday 1st September 2020, the summons was issued against the presidential aspirant following an application by a lawyer, Hassan Male Mabirizi, who asked the court to summon him on the charges of Giving false information, contrary to section 115(a) of the Penal Code Act. Obtaining registration by false pretense contrary to section 312 of the Penal Code Act, and uttering false documents contrary to section 315 and 347 of the Penal Code Act.
Bobi Wine simultaneously addressed the issue in the spirit of clarity, saying that he was born in 1982 but the mismatch of his age and academic qualifications came about when he skipped a year of Primary school and sat for his Primary Leaving Examinations in P.6 after his father realized he was bright enough to sit for the exams.
He added that the mistake was corrected in 2000 when he signed an affidavit after applying for a passport and that this was another image smear aimed at damaging his reputation in the forthcoming presidential campaign pushed forward through Male Mabirizi. Mabirizi on the other hand has sworn that by the law, Kyagulanyi’s name will not appear on the 2021 ballot paper because presenting false documents attests to his dishonesty, a trait that no president should possess.
Hon Kyagulanyi is set to appear before the court as commanded by the Government of Uganda on the 16th day of September 2020 at 10:00 AM.
