Minister Ruth Aceng has today joined the political rhythm amid mixed reactions from the public as she declared that she will be on the ballot paper come 2021 as one of the candidates for Lira district Woman Member of Parliament.
The announcement was made this Sunday afternoon, 5th July 2020 sending shock waves through Ugandans as no one really saw it coming.
“I thank the people of Lira for their great support during the 15 years I worked in that region. They gave me a lot of blessings when I was appointed as a minister, a position that I still hold up to date and their blessings are coming to fruition. I am very confident that I have not let the people of lango down.”
“So today, I want to declare publicly that I’m taking up a political position as the representative of women from Lira District and I will contest for that position. I also want to state clearly that I have been working with government which has supported me and loved me and therefore I will contest under the National Resistance Movement Party (NRM”) the minister added.
The minister will be running against the current Member of Parliament Lira district, Honourable Joy Atim who is from (UPC) party, a stronghold in that region so she expects a tight race.
Dr Ruth Aceng a paediatrician, came to the public eye on 6th June 2016 when she was appointed Minister of Health in the Cabinet of Uganda.
