Uganda’s football governing body FUFA has sanctioned National Assistant referee Mr. Juma Osire with a one month ban from all football related activies.
This is a punishment for what FUFA say was a clear referee mistake by Mr. Osire as he officiated the league game between Vipers SC and Police FC on 19th February.
VERDICT- National Assistant Referee Mr. Juma Osire.
The panel found that the referee made a wrong call that led to issuing the red card.
In the present case, the FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel sanctioned Juma Osire with one month ban from football related activities
-FUFA Statement
According to FUFA, Osire’s poor positioning at the time of the incident led to the unfair dismissal of goalkeeper Derrick Ochan for holding the ball outside his box just before the interval. Video evidence however shows that the former Venom was clearly in his box. The shot stopper’s suspension has since been lifted by FUFA’s Technical Committee.
By that moment, Abdallah Mubiru’s charges had come from a goal down to lead the Venoms 2:1 through a Brian Mululi goal. Earlier, Eric Ssenjobe’s effort cancelled out the on form Ibrahim Orit’s opener for Vipers. Ibrahim Orit later completed his brace before Congolese striker Cesar Lobi Manzoki fired Vipers ahead.
Mr. Osire received a lot of stick from local football fans that did not leave behind Police FC Chairperson Asan Kasingye. However, the Assistant Inspector General of Police was kind to him as he instead dragged Vipers SC for alleged corruption in football.
ASP Kasingye not spared.
Speaking matters 19th February, Police FC chair Kasingye has also been reprimanded for his outbursts on twitter following his side’s 3:2 loss at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende that day.Shortly after the loss, the cop went all out on Twitter accusing Vipers of spoiling Ugandan football through corruption. He went ahead to name previous situations where Vipers have had controversial decisions made in their favour.
This forced FUFA to slap AIGP Kasingye with 2.5m shillings fine for violating FUFA Ethics Code. He risks getting a six month suspension if he does not cough up the money within a month.
