Let me take you back in time January 1, 2020, wherever that day found you be it at a music concert, church overnight prayers or you are one of us that was woken up by loud sounds of fireworks only to go back to bed ten minutes later, you surely would not predict what this year had in stock.

One thing I am sure you did not anticipate to happen this year was tissue paper shopping panic let alone being in lockdown for close to half a year. With many rushing to condemn 2020 as a dead year, we decided to remind you what has happened in the past seven months.

January: Helicopter crash claims Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others.

As our liberators were celebrating their things, it was the end of this life journey for basketball legend Kobe Bryant in a helicopter crash that also claimed the live of his 13 year old daughter, Gianna, and seven others that were on board. The loss of the Mamba, one of basketball’s all time greats, would unfortunately be the start of a volatile year.

January onwards: Coronavirus

I do not think any of our prophets or is it profits obviously with the exception of Prophet Elvis Mbonye, much as he intentionally did not tell us, knew that COVID 19 was going to be a problem this year. Sadly this virus has touched nearly every corner of this earth since Wuhan resident apparently drunk bat soup, with nearly 19.9 million cases and 732,000 deaths as of August, 10, with the United States of America worst hit.

Locust invasion in East Africa.

Do you still remember that time when the government was hiring stone throwers to fight the invasion of locust in Uganda, specifically Karamoja region?? Well, hundreds of billions of locusts swarmed through parts of East Africa and South Asia in what is said to be the worst infestation in the last 25 years. Locust are one of the most disastrous pests and it was believed this particular infestation could affect the food security of close to 20 million people.

Desert locusts have swarmed into Kenya by the hundreds of millions from Somalia and Ethiopia, countries that haven’t seen such numbers in a quarter-century, destroying farmland and threatening an already vulnerable region. May: George Floyd’s death.

Never, in my life have I seen the death of one common man bring together the whole of the world breathing one message; Black Lives Matter. May 25, was the day, George Floyd, an African man, was killed by a police officer kneeling on his neck while he was crying out I can’t breathe, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. An all time low!! This triggered a wave of worldwide protests calling out for equal treatment of the black people following years of rise in racial tensions. All the four police officers involved in the incident were arrested and charges pressed on them.

Notable mentions include, Donald Trump and Iran scaring us about a possibilty of having a world war 3 and Eminem dropping Music to be murdered by. Oh my, before I forget Liverpool FC won the Premier league while Arsenal FC also got a trophy. I will not sign out without reminding you about Kaguta Museveni’s weekly TV addresses about the corona virus. A volatile year it has been, but put your heads up for the best.
