Frank Lampard has confirmed that the look for a new goalkeeper for Chelsea could have come to an end with the capture of Rennes goalkeeper Mendy.
The blues boss confirmed that the deal with the Senegalese goalie was all but done, during his press conference ahead of a carabao cup match on Wednesday. “Yes, Mendy is having a medical as we speak. Subject to that being okay, then he will become our player,” Lampard said.
Chelsea, who boasted the most expensive goalie in their ranks, had been linked with the Rennes shot-stopper all summer after question marks were raised over Kepa’s ability.
Kepa, who was named in the Chelsea posts against Liverpool over the weekend, again failed to convince the Blues’ boss after he gifted Sadio Mane a goal in the 2-0 loss to the champions.
Elsewhere, Lampard confirmed that Pulisic and Ziyech would soon be back in action for Chelsea. “Pulisic and Ziyech are getting close as well,” he said.
He went ahead and confirmed that Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva, the other two summer signings, would all be in the squad against Barnsley and could be handed their debut by the Blues Boss.
