Former Kampala city Mayor Al-Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebagala has been pronounced dead.
His death comes weeks after he was rushed to the intensive care unit at International Hospital
Kampala (IHK) Namugongo suffering from acute stomach complications.
According to the former City Mayor’s close family, medics informed them that the patient had
suffered a stomach disorder known as intussusception.
Intussusception is a serious condition in which part of the intestine slides into an adjacent part of
the intestine. This “telescoping” often blocks food or fluid from passing through. Intussusception
also cuts off the blood supply to the part of the intestine that’s affected, leading to a tear in the
bowel (perforation), infection and death of bowel tissue.
