Prof Patrick Ogwang, the renowned innovator of COVIDEX, a supplementary herbal remedy to COVID treatment, recently given the National Drug Authority’s the green light, has been handed an investment license by Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).
The investment license was handed to him by the state minister for investment, Evelyn Anite, and given leeway to start a COVIDEX factory in Soroti industrial park on a 5-acre piece of land.
Minister Anite said the government has also granted him a 10-year tax holiday to enable him to grow his business in the initial stages.
This backing comes as a relief for the doctor who had been seeking funding for more trials to further research into treatment for the novel coronavirus. In an interview with NTV, Prof Ogwang had revealed that to do clinical trials; he would need about Shs2bn, as the process is lengthy and involves hiring the expensive services of highly skilled professionals.
