Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi, the Bishop of Kigezi North Diocese, has banned the sacrament of Holy Communion as the church’s way of limiting human contact during church.
This decision was arrived at after President Museveni announced that churches, mosques, and other religious worship places could receive believers but with a limit on numbers.
“This is an important part of the life of the Christian, but we reached a consensus with the district COVID-19 task force headed by the Resident District Commissioner, Dan Kaguta, to suspend Holy Communion activity at least up to Christmas. Maybe the situation would have turned normal,” Rt. Rev Magezi said.
It is the first time in 7 months that churches have been allowed to have congregations of people, as the government had put religious gatherings on lockdown as one of the measures to help the country deal with the virus.
