Sources in Kikuube District have confirmed that the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement camp has been placed under internal lockdown as more positive cases of the coronavirus emerge.
The district officials headed by Richard Tabaro, the Kikuube Resident District Commissioner under advisement from the Albertine COVID-19 task force issued the directive on Tuesday evening.
The lockdown, which has been put in place for an initial 14 days, is meant to cut on movements to and from the camp which is located in Kyangwali Sub County. No one is permitted to move through the sub-county unless they are very crucial and essential service personnel.
Richard Tabaro added that no one without a mask will be allowed to move about in the camp. The measures come after more cases rose to bring their tally to 21 in so short a time.
NRM Primaries are to be held in the camp on 4th September but Mr. Tabaro argues that people’s health is on the line and it comes first. Elections can wait.
