Moroto district is on high alert after it was revealed that 57 of the 219 escaped prisoners from last month’s prison-break tested positive for the coronavirus.
The revelation was made by Frank Baine, the Uganda Prisons’ spokesperson, while addressing the media with updates of the incident of 17th September.
A fortnight after the jailbreak, it was revealed that of the 219, 18 had been recaptured, and 12 inmates put out of action after exchanges with security forces.
There is still a UGX 1.5M reward for anyone with information on the guns used and currently in the possession of the escaped convicts, and UGX 500,000 for information on the whereabouts of the escapees.
