England FA has today confirmed that the Football Association Community Shield will be played on the 29th of August 2020.
The community shield is played between the team that won the Premier League and the holders of the FA Cup ahead of a new season every year.
The FA confirmed that the premier league 2019/20 champions Liverpool will face the winner between Arsenal or Chelsea who is to face each other in an FA cup final this weekend.
The traditional season curtain-raiser will be played on the 29th with the kick-off time to be communicated on a later date.
Jurgen Klopp will be looking to add to his silverware with the reds or it will be either of Lampard and Arteta looking to win second silverware for their clubs in just a space of one month.
The announcement comes after Premier league bosses confirmed that they would start the 2020/21 season on the 12th of September. It is reported that FA is discussing having fans back into the stadium on the 29th of August but with restricted numbers.
The community shield match will immediately be followed by an international break ahead of the New season that would be starting on the 12th of September.
Football is back with the calendar taking a new shape. The English Football league has also confirmed that the Championship, League One, and League Two will all resume on the 29th and their seasons would be ending on an earlier date on 8th May, compared to that of the Premier League whose season will end 23rd May 2021.
