Upon directive from the Inspector General Of Police Okoth Ochola Martin, the director of Criminal Investigations Department Grace Akullo is in Mbarara to guide investigations into a case against Minister Rukutana stemming from last week’s events.
According to CID Spox, Charles Tumwine, Director Akullo is directly supervising Rukutana’s case on top of going over and overseeing several other reported cases of violence that rocked the NRM party primaries in Western Uganda towards the end of last week.
The state minister for labor Mwesigwa Rukutana is accused of attempted murder using a gun after he and his entourage were arrested last Saturday and are being prosecuted on allegations of shooting and injuring Dan Rweiburingi a supporter of Naome Kabasharira who defeated the minister in the NRM Primaries.
Speaking about the incident, NRM Chairman and President of Uganda, H.E Kaguta Museveni said a firm hand is going to be used on those who chose violence in the party’s primaries.
“The Minister Rukutana is in jail and will be prosecuted,” Museveni said.
“Those who beat people, like in Bukono, are all in jail or on the run. They will be fully accountable with robust charges; assault, attempted murder, murder, etc. Those who altered results will go to jail on forgery, fraud, subversion, etc. and their forgeries will not stand,” he added citing the violence that marred the recently held NRM primary elections across the country.
