Uganda was beaming with pride and joy on Friday night after Kapchorwa born Joshua Cheptegei was crowned World 5000m champion.
Cheptegei did achieve this fete in style, beating a 16-year-old Kenenisa Bekele record, winning at 12:35:36.
At departure, the team was informed a new world record would mean a USD 50,000 reward. This means that Cheptegei is already UGX 186 Million richer. Owing to the fact that he won the race, he was rewarded USD 20,000, approx UGX 74 Million.
Cheptegei is also contracted by Nike and will rewarded for setting a world record while wearing Nike running shoes.
