Chelsea FC has signed French defender Malang Sarr on a free transfer.
The 21-year-old left Nice at the end of last season after failing to agree to a new contract with Patrick Viera’s side. Malang Sarr started his football career at the age of 5 years at his local club Nice. It is the only club he has played for prior to joining Chelsea on a free transfer. At the age of 17, Malang was introduced to the first team and in August 2016, he scored his first-ever goal for the French side.
Malang 21, is a left-footed center back who can also play at left-back as he is good on the ball and going forward. Sarr’s ability to play from the back was one of the reasons Chelsea decided to sign him on a free transfer.
The French international has now put pen to paper on a five contract and will be set to stay on the blues books for five years but will head out on loan to further his development a club statement confirmed. “Malang Sarr, a young French defender previously with Nice, has joined Chelsea. The 21-year-old left the Ligue 1 club this summer following the end of his contract there and has now signed a five-year deal with us. He will spend the 2020/21 season out on loan.”
Malang leaves the Cote d’Azur after making over 100 appearances which included outings in the Europa League, champions league qualifying stages, and the French Ligue 1.
