Uganda Rugby Premiership side Makerere Impis has started preparations for the upcoming 2021 rugby season in high gear by signing two brothers Waya Edmond and Gilbert Deng Ring on what they called long-term deals.
Waya, who was in the books league rivals and former Graveyard tenants Mulago Rams who let him play out his contract was glad the move materialized.
“I have wanted to play for Impis for a while now and I am glad it happened” Waya, who is looking forward to helping the Arrogance Boys achieve their dreams told the club.
Deng, on the other hand, hasn’t registered any minutes in the Premiership but he is looking onto the club’s great fan base and rich history to propel him to great heights in his debut season.
The two brothers will surely give Coach Emmanuel Katuntu selection headache as he hopes to guide the Makerere outfit to a better league position than last season, a rare one that saw Heathens declared Champions but no team relegated an effect of the novel Corona virus that affected every sector.
On February 1, the Uganda Rugby Union announced that the 2020 Nile Special Stout sponsored league will kick-off on March 6th giving clubs and all stakeholders just one month to prepare for the action.
The league will be played in a single leg round robin format tournament involving 10 clubs with matches taking place behind closed doors every Saturday from March 6th to May 8th with exception of the Easter weekend.
On February 15, the Union tested carried out COVID19 tests on the players at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds in preparation for the league.
