For anyone that hoped for Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye to stand for Presidency in the forthcoming Presidential Elections, the good Doctor seems to have hit the final nail in their hopes as he reaffirmed that he would not be contesting for Presidency come 2021.
This came after a group of youth barred the former Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate from addressing them at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi. Their only condition for him to be allowed to address them was for him to pick up nomination forms for Presidency.
However, to their disappointment, the Retired Colonel reassured the revelers that he would not be contesting for the highest office of the land come 2021. He further promised that he would continue to lead an activist struggle to liberate Uganda. This brings to an end several rumors that had for sometime circulated about Dr. Kizza Besigye giving it another shot.
By the close of business yesterday(Tuesday 18th August), FDC Party Chairman, Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa had picked up nomination forms to stand as the party’s flag bearer. As of today, Party President Mr. Patrick Amuriat has joined the race for the same position. Mr. Patrick Amuriat is quoted to have said his vast experience in several positions at the party is what he feels make him the best candidate for the position.
I am going to fix the broken bones of Uganda. Almost everything that we have is broken. We have a broken society. We have a broken economy, health system and everything is broken. I am a bone healer and I have come to fix the broken nation,” .
Mr Biriggwa said
Dr. Kizza Besigye unsuccesfully contested against the incumbent H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 amidst allegations of gross electoral process abuse by the state or its agencies. We await to see what new or old tricks the next Party flag bearer intends to bring on board.
