Luis Suarez has left Barcelona for Atletico Madrid after Ronald Koeman made it clear he wasn’t in his plans of ahead of the new season .The Uruguayan departs Camp Nou after six seasons in which he tallied 198 goals in 283 games for the club.
Last season’s La Liga runners up confirmed that Suarez had left the club after the two Spanish clubs (Barca and Atleti) came to an agreement for the transfer fee of the Uruguayan star striker .
Atletico Madrid will have to pay €6m to acquire the services of Luis Suarez who had been heavily linked with Juventus in recent weeks as the Italian champions have been in the hunt for a striker. The Bianconeri have since moved on to other targets after Suarez was forced to go through a lengthy process of acquiring Italian citizenship.
Following his failed move to Juventus, Luis Suarez will instead stay in Spain with Atletico Madrid, ending his six year spell with Barca in which he managed to become the third all time top scorer of the Catalonia based club and also manage to win 13 trophies.
“FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Luis Suarez. The Madrid club will pay FC Barcelona €6 million in variables,” the Catalan club announced.
“FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their gratitude to Luis Suarez for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future,” Barcelona said on their official website.
The 32-year-old was seen crying before leaving Barca will now team up with Diego Simeoni as Alvaro Morata’s replacement who department for Italian Champions Juventus.
