Barcelona have appointed Netherlands’s national team head coach Ronald Koeman.
The Dutchman replaces Qique Setien who was dismissed by Barcelona after a disappointing campaign that saw them end the season with no trophy.
Koeman, a former Barcelona player, is most remembered by Barça fans for the Wembley final in 1992. The Dutchman was the scorer of the only goal of the game, his extra-time winner giving the Blaugrana a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria handed the Club their first-ever victory in the European Cup and secured his place in FC Barcelona history.
The 57-year-old joins the Blaugrana after having spells in the Premier League, La Liga, the Dutch league, the Portuguese league, and the Netherlands national team.
Ronald Koeman who boasts a management experience of 20years has won 8 trophies during his management career and it was this experience that helped him past the likes of Ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, and Xavi to the Job.
Ronald Koeman began his coaching career at Barcelona as a first-team assistant coach and then changed to being the coach of Barça B in the 1998-99 season.
In the season of 1999-20, he made his way to Vitesse where stayed until 2001 when he moved on to Ajax Amsterdam. While at Ajax, the Barcelona Hero won two league titles, a Dutch Cup and a Dutch Super Cup before securing a move to Benefica.
In 2005 he moved on to Portugal and Benfica where he won the Portuguese Super Cup. After his less successful spell, the former Barça player returned to Holland in 2006 and took over at PSV Eindhoven, winning the Eredivisie title again in 2007.
Following a successful spell with PSV, he returned to Spain with Valencia, winning the Copa del Rey in 2008. In 2009 he returned to Netherland and guided AZ Alkmaar to Super Cup glory before coaching Feyenoord between 2011 and 2014.
In the season of 2014-15 Koeman headed to the Premier League with Southampton before moving on to Everton in 2016 where he spent 18 months before being sacked. In 2018 his luck would follow him again as he took over as the Netherlands national team coach guiding them to Euro 2021 competition and making the Dutch believe they could compete again.
The appointment of the Dutchman has come with criticism but the Barcelona board will be hoping that Ronald Koeman can over see a new project at the club
