Aston Villa has continued to strengthen its squad with the capture of Ross Barkley from Chelsea on a season-long deal.
The villans confirmed the addition of the England international on their official website with a statement that read, “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Ross Barkley on a season-long loan from Chelsea.”
The 26-year-old initially joined Chelsea from Everton where he had made 179 appearances scoring 29 goals, his performances for the toffees convinced the blues to sign him hoping he could replace club legend Frank Lampard in the middle of the park.
But with Ross failing to hit the ground running and Chelsea bringing in new acquisitions, he has now secured a move away from west London joining Aston villa for one season.
Ross leaves Chelsea having made 56 appearances in all competitions. He will be hoping that he can win a starting berth in Dean Smith’s team as he hopes to convince Gareth Southgate that he is the man to lead England’s midfield moving forward.
Aston Villa’s boss, Dean Smith couldn’t hide his delight upon acquiring the marauding midfielder as he confirmed that VIlla had captured a real coup in Ross.
“Capturing a player of Ross’s quality is a real coup for our Club and I am certain he will thrive here and improve our team.” Dean Smith said
Aston villa who survived relegation last season by finishing 17th will be hoping that Barkley alongside other new signings can lead Aston villa to a better finish this season.
