Arsenal’s hopes of signing Dayot Upamecano were all but crushed after the defender signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him in German for a further three years.
Upamencano, who has been in blistering form for RB Leipzig for over the past three seasons has now signed a fresh deal to end all hopes of any move to London this summer. Upamecano has been on Leipzig’s roster since January 2017, when he completed a switch from Red Bull Salzburg.
He has gone on to make 111 appearances for the German club, with his stock rising considerably across those outings.
His form both in the German Bundesliga and Champions League had seen him attracting Europe’s elite clubs with rumors stating that even Bayern Munich was ready to activate his release clause that was at £50M.
Rb Leipzig was considering the sale of the young French man this transfer window after he had only one year left on his contract and were not ready to let him leave for free.
Rb Leipzig Sporting director Oliver Mintzlaff had earlier stressed that Dayot was an important part of the ambitious club and he would never let the French man leave on a free .
Oliver Mintzlaff told Bild: “‘Upa’ is an extremely important player for us and one of the most sought-after talents in Europe.
“And we can assure that we have a clear understanding with him and his agent he won’t leave us on a free. We can’t afford that as a club.
“There are only two options: prolong or leave. I am sure we’ll soon find out in which direction it’s going.”
Oliver Mintzlaff will now be filling happy after the defender signed a new contact .
